Blueprint for Just Transition
Engaging Diverse Stakeholder perspectives
Local Residents
Local residents are those in your community who may live or work near the site and have experienced the impacts of the site’s closure directly. Those most impacted should be at the forefront of crafting locally-derived solutions. They will have first-hand knowledge of the impacts of a closure when finding the facts and will be key to developing the community’s plan for the long-term.

What they bring to the table:
- First-hand experience of the impacts of the closure
- They may live next to or near the site and have deep knowledge of the neighborhood and what services and resources are most needed
- Ability to organize and encourage active participation in the transition process
- Ability to tap into a local network of resources and partnerships
Common concerns for a successful transition:
- That they will be told solutions as opposed to being at the center of crafting them
- They will not have a say in the planning, remediation, and redevelopment of the site
- That the reuse of the site will reinforce existing negative environmental consequences or will not be an asset to the community
